Hayden's Story

I guess since Hayden is almost 7 months old I should finally take some time and write his birth story.

Around 1am on January 13th,2014 I started having contractions, nothing to serious. They were 7-10 minutes apart with a few really nasty ones in-between. That went on for about three hours but I didn't think anything was happening because I would fall asleep when I wasn't having contractions. With Keaton I didn't have any contractions intil my water broke, so I thought I was okay cause my water had broke yet. Finally around 4:30am I decided to wake Shawn up and told him that we needed to call our Midwife. She was on her way to the Hospital to meet two other couples so we decided that it would probably be a good idea to have her check me since I go REALLY FAST with my births. I had decided to use the bathroom before I got dressed and this is where things get interesting.....

I went into the bathroom just in time for my water to break over the toilet (I know, TMI) as soon as that happened I could feel Hayden crowning! I was stuck in the bathroom. We were living with my parents at the time while our home in Blackfoot was being finished and I had timed how long it took to get from their house to the Hospital and it was 10 minutes. We didn't have 10 minutes, I knew we were going to have Hayden at home. Shawn kept saying "No, we are not having him at home." "Let's Go Now! As he was throwing my slippers & jacket at me. I couldn't move from where I was at and just realized this is the reality of our situation.

Shawn in a panic asked me what to do, I told him to go get my mom (She had delivered 6 of her babies at home and would know what to do) and to call 911. I was standing up in the doorway of the bathroom and five minutes later with two pushes Hayden Glenn Hunter was born. He weighed in at 7lbs 15oz. and was 20.5 inches long. He was beautiful and so peaceful. My mom and sister barely made it in time to catch him. My dad came down the stairs with a new shoelace and scissors to cut Hayden's cord, but we waited for the paramedics to do that.

The EMT's showed up shorty to take me & Hayden to the Hospital to make sure that we were okay. My dad was so mad at them. I had Hayden in the basement and they made me walk up about 15 stairs to get on the gurney. We took a ride in the Ambulance to the hospital and met Shawn and our Midwife there. Everyone was shocked that I had him at home. We were both checked out and we got a clean bill of health. They made us stay over night just to watch Hayden and made sure nothing changed.

If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't change anything in the world. It was such an amazing experience. I know one thing for sure, the next time I have another baby I'm doing it standing up. Less painful and gravity is a wonderful thing!

Oh, and next time we will be heading to the hospital when I start having contractions :)

Hayden I want you to know that we love you so much. We are so blessed to have you in our family.

Love,

Dad, Mom and big brother Keaton.
